More Domestic Terrorism from the Far Right
I don’t know if ‘far right’ is the best phrasing. I’m thinking, way, way, way, then another twenty miles far right, but everything he’s says is spot on.
A lone gunman known to authorities as a white supremacist shot and fatally wounded a private security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in downtown Washington today before being shot and wounded by guards who returned fire, officials said.
I can’t tell you how angry I am today at all the race-baiting, red scare retro, anti-feminist bastards that are perpetuating the hateful subcultures that nurse these domestic terrorists. And I can’t help but think of the militia movement that sprouted up after Clinton was elected.
When Barack Obama got the nomination, interest in hate groups spiked. When he got elected over the McCain/Palin ticket, gun sales skyrocketed. And after he was inaugurated, the threat of clinic violence escalated:
One can only conclude that like terrorist sleeper cells, these extremists have now been set in motion. Indeed the evidence is already there. The chatter, the threats, the hate-filled rhetoric are abundant.
In the last year of the Bush administration there were 396 harassing calls to abortion clinics. In just the first four months of the Obama administration that number has jumped to 1401.
What does it say about the respect that right wingers have for democracy that when they lose elections, elements in their midst think it’s ok to start shooting?
Please help support the Southern Poverty Law Center and other groups that are watchdogging the far right. I have a feeling we’re going to need them in the years ahead.
