Detroit Needs Robocop
Courtesy of Sarah, here’s a really good editorial about the Robocop statue on Detroit. The Robocop theme is stuck in my head and this is not helping.
No. Detroit has plenty of symbols already. Detroit is filled to the brim with symbols and metaphors that all do a fine and poetic job of reflecting the troubled decades the city has seen.
We don’t need a fucking cartoon character to help symbolize that.
Internet, when you get wrapped up in these little schemes to push forward something you think is funny, please, please try to remember the dignity of the people on the other end of your prank. Go ahead and laugh at the fundraiser for the Robocop statue, but don’t actually give to it. There are people in your own town that could use that money. Detroit doesn’t need a Robocop statue.
