The President and First Lady both came out to a playground build yesterday on the Day of Service and Remembrance.

Super jealous I couldn’t be there.

Super annoyed at all the right-wing whack jobs calling the First Family all sorts of names because of our organization name, “KaBOOM!”. I keep reading the word “tasteless” in these tweets and articles. Reporting on this in that tone is tasteless in my mind.

Although, a lot of them are copying and pasting our mission and vision in these articles and we are getting a good amount of traffic to the website from it. Whatever.

Also, a child volunteer was bummed that the day’s special guest wasn’t Beyonce.

Today marks my 7th anniversary at KaBOOM!.
KaBOOM! works to bring balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children, particularly those growing up in poverty in America. We do this by creating great places to play, inspiring communities to promote and support play and driving the national discussion about the importance of play in fostering healthy and productive lives.
We are dedicated to ensuring all kids get the childhood they deserve filled with balanced and active play, so they can thrive.

KaBOOM! builds in June 2013

Help me spread the word about a ton of playground builds KaBOOM! has in June, including Oklahoma City, Grand Rapids, Brooklyn, Austin, Louisville, Philly, Newark, and many, many more.

I did this once through a work thing. It was actually really fun.

Wait, this is real?!?!? I thought this was just on Parks ‘n’ Rec„,? What!?!?

Yeah this is totally a real organization. They build playgrounds for lower income daycares and schools. They daycare has to raise a certain amount of money, but it’s not much. It was really fun.

Our model isn’t so much about awarding grants (which we do), but it focuses on community building. Think stone soup and teaching a man to fish. It’s all explained in our Theory of Change.

And we are hiring.
